First Time In Devon!

Devon, is similar to Anglesey. The bad roads; the wind blown trees; the scenery, but when Anglesey doesn't have surf, there is a big chance that Devon does!

At the start of our easter holiday, we ended up driving down to Devon. The forcast was good. It looked promising, only I didn't want the surf at the start of the holiday, because I had been on the sofa for three days being ill with the flu.

When we got down to Devon we spent no time in getting to the beach, Saunton is the beach we went to. It was quite windy onshore, which made it a pain to get out. I got four nice waves on the Sunday, but dad told me to go in after a while because I kept coughing due to the recent flu.

On the Monday the swell size was smaller, but there was less wind on it. We decided to be really cheesy and rent a beach hut for the day (They're really good at hanging your wetsuit to dry before a session) mum and dad went out before me. About half an hour later I went to join them, it was a bit choppy but on the big set they were about shoulder high. Mum is still learning, she got nailed on the inside, so dad went to help her out and explain on how to deal with coping with a set. Then I got a six solid top turn wave, with no camera in sight, but luckily dad saw it, which made him believe it.

Tuesday was small, too small, but was good for mum to practice catching waves standing up. The rest of the week had no swell, but my sister has got into climbing with dad, so I tag along. We did our first sea cliff climbs at baggy point on Tuesday morning before mums surf session (for anyone interested we all climbed, Ben, severe 4a, and just mum and dad climbed Marion, Hard Severe 4b)

On Wednesday We went to climb Vicarage Cliff it had the best entrance to anywhere id ever been before. It was an old fishermans path, but because of the storm at the start of the year it had got really gnarley. It was so difficult to get down someone had tied an big old rope for you to lean off on the way down (here we climbed Box of Delights, Hard Severe 4b; Tombstone, Hard Severe 4b)

Thursday was a Family Bike ride YAY!!!! cycling upwind with the family is always fun ;-)

Friday we went to Baggy point again (and went to do Scrattling Crack, very difficult), we did this climb because it had two stars in the climbing book, we started at it late, so it was a race against the tide, a quick abseil down then an enjoyable climb up, to save time my sister and I climbed up at the same time, one behind the other, which was a different was of climbing.

Saturday was another small surf day for mum, she went out and ended up about 2 miles down the beach, but unfortuanatley dad and I had to carry her SUP all the way up to the car, Then a long drive home to a cold house...
